Horse Heaven

The girls had the opportunity yesterday to do a little horseback riding at a stable where the Die-Hard Equestrian has taken lessons. She and her mom and grandparents and siblings were also there. I think all the children had a good time, and of course I have pictures to share.

That looks like so much fun! My 10.5yo dd would absolutely LOVE to do something like that!

Hey Kathy, oddly enough, my eldest daughter (first picture) will be 11 in December, and she declares she is horse-crazy!

Kate, you make everything sound like a story!

Danylle, thank you!

Marie, my girls weren't sore, but then they weren't on for too long.

Wow! Our girls need to become penpals or something. My dd's birthday is at the beginning of Feb., so they are just a couple of months apart. My poor dd is horse-crazy too, just no where to ride or anything, at least not that we have found yet. We have room for a horse, but hubby says NO WAY! So, she looks at horse magazines and horse books. Poor thing! LOL!

Is it only an indoor riding ring? Riding outdoors is much more fun, IMHO, not that I expect kids that age to go galloping through the woods and jumping over logs, or 4' fences like I do . . .

Anyway, I'm glad they're having fun; they look really happy. Some horses are pretty temperamental--skittish about snakes on the trail, etc., and just difficult in general, but no stable owner lets kids ride them.

I've only ever been thrown off a horse once in my life, when it balked at a 5' fence. I got the wind knocked out of me for a few seconds, but that was the extent of it. I got up, called the horse over, and got right back up in the saddle--no hard feelings between the horse and me. I will stay on a horse that bucks a little or rears. That's easy.

Happy riding to all of you! It's a great passtime. Oh, and you can't fool a horse any more than you can fool a cat. I swear they can read your mind.

I'm pretty sure there is outdoor riding as well, but it was raining on and off, and very cold. Not great for outside riding weather, especially for little kids.

Kathy, yes, our daughters should "meet"!

barb
you make me giggle.
see.. the thing is:
i have such a crazy brain that a poem/movie line/song always jumps in.
over the purple moor
is from one of my fave poems. i had a scottish teacher when i was ten. she would recite the poem to us, and it always sounded *so* fabulous.
the high-way man came rrrr-i-d-ing, rrrr-i-d-ing, rrrr-i-d-ing... the highwayman came rrrr-i-d-ing up to the auld inn do-o-o-or-r-rr..

hubby and i still recite it that way whenever we're reading it to the kiddos.....

ok. no more poems now. i mean it.
