Something Rotten in the State of Ohio
You can imagine how I feel after reading that people in northeast Ohio are overpaying millions for sewer projects. This, after heavy rain allowed raw sewage to flow directly into Lake Erie, but we are supposed to be encouraged by tunnels that will be built to keep this problem from occurring again. The problem is, how much will we overpay for them? And how can we get public officials we can trust, to keep an eye on things? I can not ever see myself running for public office. I would hate it; it's not where my gifts and talents lie. And I wouldn't want my husband to tackle it until our two daughters are older, if he even wanted to do so. What can honest people do?

They tried this in Milwaukee years ago. The so-called Deep Tunnel was built to "hold" the 100-year flood.
Abysmal failure. The "Deep Tunnel" isn't big enough. The Milw. Metro Sewerage Dist. bypasses untreated sewer and storm sewer water into Lake Michigan nearly every time there's a measurable rainfall.
I cannot begin to fathom that someone is trying to foist on another community!
Politicians love deep tunnels because then nobody gets angry at them for tearing up the streets.
The CORRECT way to deal with the problem is to separate the storm sewers from the "sanitary" sewers - but that requires tearing up streets, for years, to get the systems separated. Then, when there's heavy rain, storm sewers- only can be dumped to the lake, instead of "holding" all the combined wastewater until the water treatment plants can catch up.
Oh, I'm so mad for you! Do whatever you can to stop this. It's stupid, it's expensive, AND it's bad for the environment!
Humans are the only inhabitants of the planet that poop in their drinking water.
