Lookie! I got this pretty bracelet in the post today from kate5kiwis. I won it because I know what the answer to life, the universe and everything is! :)

I didn't get a chance to help my friend with her sewing. I did get a nice shirt for my daughter made. Gotta work on the skorts to go with.

Earrings

For those of you who are interested, here's a very close-up picture of the earrings my darling husband bought for me on his trip. They look like emeralds, or at least fake emeralds, but they're really crystallized volcanic ash. They're pretty.

And for Tribe fans, was tonight suh-weet or what?? A run-off home run in the ninth to win the game!! By a pinch hitter! Tied for first in the AL Central!

Bad Man, Good Man

So once again, a man is charged with two counts of murder in the death of the mother of his child (or children) and the death of an unborn child. When will it strike people as incongruent that right now an unborn child's death being called murder or not murder depends only on the desires of the mother? The mother's feelings change nothing about whether or not the unborn child is a living, feeling human creature. Shouldn't that be what matters? As an aside, it's pretty sad that Bobby Cutts Jr. is only believed to be the father of the unborn child he is accused of murdering. Did the mother not know who the father was, or had the father simply not stepped up and taken responsibility for this child?

On a happier note, my husband brought home a little gift for each of us from his business trip. He looked through an antique prints store for me, not only knowing what era of fashion I am most interested in, but also whether or not the prints he found would be interesting to me (they wouldn't have been.) Isn't he a great guy? I got a pair of earrings instead, made of green crystallized volcanic ash from Mt. St. Helen's. My first pair of earrings since I got my ears pierced!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there! I'm enjoying the day hanging out with my family, although I'll probably get some sewing in too.

I want to show off the great necklace Kate5Kiwis made for me! When the Scientist was in kindergarten, for Mother's Day all the kids made mom a beaded necklace that said "(kid's name) LOVES MOM". But Wildchild never went to regular kindergarten, and I couldn't have a necklace from only one daughter! So seeing what a great beader Kate is, I asked her to make a matching necklace for me that says "(Wildchild) LOVES MOM" and she did. I wore them with pride to church today! I sent Kate a super-secret package of goodies in return. Hope she likes what's in it! Kate did a great job on my necklace!

Christmas in January

We were finally able to get together with my in-laws today for Christmas. The best part was watching the girls get the gifts that we, the parents, have known for ages they were getting, and have had to keep biting our tongues not to spoil the surprises. Here is Wildchild holding up one of her gifts. Unfortunately you can't really see in this picture the new pearl earrings she received from her grandmother. She also got some Cinderella earrings from her aunt. She likes Cinderella. Yes, she really does.

The best thing of all was watching the Scientist as she opened the envelope containing a gift certificate for four horseback riding lessons, from the stables where the girls rode horses during an open house last year. The Scientist was beside herself with joy, and couldn't stop giggling. That is, when she could breathe. And now her father and I don't have to worry about making ourselves bleed anymore. It's been so hard hearing "Whenever I get to take horseback riding lessons..." for the past couple of months.

Some great memories made today.

Safely Through Another Week

It was a very Gloomy Sort of Day. (The Scientist has been re-reading Winnie the Pooh.) It was weird to have a thunderstorm the night before, in November! But my husband finished some things today that really needed to be done out in the garage, and I got a few things accomplished myself that have been eluding me for a while. The Scientist and Wildchild were very excited to help Papa out in the garage. I joke with DH that I thought we had girls instead of boys! Wildchild does have her girly side, such as loving jewelry and pretty dresses. Ironically, she is allergic to nickel, so she can only wear real gold jewelry. The Scientist, however, decided very early on that she identified with her beloved Papa, and there was a time that she didn't want anything to do with things that were "too girly." Fortunately, she has come to terms with the fact that she is, indeed, a girl. :)

I suppose I'm just a pessimist. The week has not been fabulously fantastic, but we had a good routine in school and work, and it just seems too good to last!
